I went to the sale in Opelika Alabama August 1 2018. Me and my daughter stood in line for 2and a half hours. And when we went in we was told that we could get as many books and kids books also for that price. When we got to the register they said corporate called and changed there mind and said no only one book per customer. It was a very *** thing they did to us some people was able to get as many as they wanted and everyone else did not so how do they even feel like that was fair to all of us that had stood in line for hours. That is a very poor decision that corporate made. I rate them very, very. Poorly corporation.

Wrong book shipped, not issuing a refund

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I wish I had looked up company reviews before trying to purchase a book through them, but it was a time-sensitive purchase.

I ordered a review book and a week later, I received the wrong book. I ordered a nursing certification book, and they sent me a English book. I was annoyed, but just figured I’d return it for a refund.

I mailed the book back a couple of days later, and received notification on June 26th that the book had been received by the warehouse and that I’d recieved a refund shortly.... 3-5 days, to quote customer service. It is now July 7th, and upon MY following up with this awful company, they claimed that my book hadn’t been received by the warehouse yet!

Terrible, terrible company. I have contacted this company MULTIPLE times. I will be calling them today because this entire, futile transaction has gone on for far too long. Do not, under any circumstances, order from this company.

I ordered a couple months ago thru these dirt bags, and was finally given a tracking number to find that my purchase had never even left their warehouse today. Hoping to see my money back very soon, or I'll be reporting them for fraud. Screw this company... Go anywhere else is my advice.

Lied to and stolen from

I went into books a million in Mobile, AL in December. After checking out with my card, the cashier told me they were doing a survey about magazines, and all i had to do was pick which one I thought was the best. The survey entered me to get a gift card from books a million. I pointed at one and went on my way. Fast forward to April and my debit card has a charge of $66 that says it's for TME. I never agreed to this charge and my bank locked everything up. I googled the reference info on the charge and found out that it came from books a million and people have had this issue before

Next time you sign up for a magazine trial, actually read what you're signing. It's a free trial just like with Amazon or Spotify. If you don't call and cancel you'll be automatically charged.

I canceled my card for tge same reason of getting multiple charges. I called the nunber and its a voice recording the whole way. This is rediculous. Now tell me how I get a new card and the same subscription is on it. How do I cancel this stupid charge? I am never shopping at books a million again. A year I have been dealing with this crap.

Everything Went Wrong

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Everything that could have gone wrong did. I was just running into BAM really quickly for a last minute Christmas present for my mom, and once I found the book (a 30 minute feat in itself because they have NO organizational system), I spent 30 minutes with the most incompetent cashier that I have ever met in my life. She tried to sign me up for their loyalty program, and when I asked if it was like a kroger card or a costco card (meaning do I have to pay for it or not, something that I also explained to her) she said kroger, and she went through this entire process of trying to sign me up and then tells me that I owe $60 for my $10 book, and when I asked what was up, she said that I had to pay for the card, so I tell her that I don't want the card, and she asks if I want to be a part of their magazine subscription and it's free, and not only is it not free, but she put all of my information except my address and phone number into that system incorrectly, so it took me a solid two months of fighting and back and forth with the company for me to get rid of the stupid subscription (to magazines that I never read) EVEN THOUGH I SAID THAT I DIDN'T WANT IT.

Book ASimple solution, amazon.comThe last two experiences I am had at Books A Million were similar.1st it's hard to find anything and often when you do the book is in poor shape, beat up and folded. The toys or record players have previously been opened.2nd Once you to decide to check out, they harass you to no end with "up sales", "membership offers" and yes "*Free magazine offers" ...And people seriously wonder why retail is dead?

You can get the item new, in stock, and for the same and often better price. Also you do not have to deal with pushy cashiers.

Funkco pop

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

When at the store and checking out I noticed a pop that I had been chasing. When I asked the cashier what all those pops were doing back there she told me that the pops were all on hold for an employee.

I asked if they were for sale she did sell it to me but as I looked closer all of the pops were the rare ones. Why would they company allow the employees the hold all the rates?

This seems kinda unfair to your customers I hope this can be resolved. Since if pop hunters could occasionally find a good pop they would hunt there more

They allow this because their employees are their customers as well.

Gross incompetence

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I ordered a special edition book on Oct. 24th that was supposed to be ready to ship on Nov. 8th. On the 8th, I received a status update stating that the book had been back-ordered and to expect 2-4 weeks for shipping. I sent an email to customer support asking about the order on Dec. 9th. On the 10th, I received an email stating, again, that the book was on back-order. But then, inexplicably, I got an email on the 11th saying that my order had been cancelled. And now that special edition book is no longer available through any other vendors. That was all disappointing, yes. But my main complaint here is that, since my initial correspondence with customer support, I have been copied on a dozen or so customer support emails for orders to which I have no connection! I have tried, in vain, to get them to stop copying me. Everything about my interactions with this company, from start to finish, have pointed to gross incompetence. I've never done business with them before and I certainly won't after this.

Gave our debit card number to a magazine company

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

A charge for a magazine subscription showed up on my bank account. When I called the eight hundred number listed I was told I signed up for magazines at Books A Million.

I've only shopped there once and will never shop there again. Sounds like a SCAM to me! Thats my review, but this website is requiring me to use at least one hundred words.

I'm beginning to wonder if it's even worth it to have to keep typing and coming up with more words when I've already stated what I wanted to in my first four sentences. I guess I will just keep typing until I get to on hundred.

Check the bottom of your receipt from that purchase. It’s a verbatim copy of an agreement you signed (which the company can definitely send you) allowing the magazine company to charge your card at the end of the predetermined trial period (3 months).

You only feel scammed because you didn’t read the contract like a normal human would.

BAM anti Trump Voodoo doll

If they had made a Obama voodoo doll there would be riots in the streets. I won’t be shopping at BAM again. I will choose stores with more class.

It's not a voodoo doll. It's a dammit doll, made most notably popular by the conservative's favorite man, Ronald Reagan.

And calm down.

Censorship is the death of democracy. People are allowed to have opinions.

Right. Any store with self-respect wouldn’t have that loser’s likeness tainting it’s shelves, at all.

We as a people should take to the streets with all the presidential merchandise we can find and set it all ablaze. It’ll be like those modern multimedia burnings these conservatives so love, except it’ll actually do some good.

Scammed by BAM

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Back in May, I went to BAM and got a few books, and the lady told me about their "You spent so much that you get 3 months subscription to 3 magazines free." Naturally excited to read magazines for free, I signed up. Flash forward to today when I found out that BAM gave my card information to these magazines so they could charge me for not cancelling my subscription in time- something I was never contacted about. So I get charges to my card for each of the magazines. Never will I ever walk back into a BAM, and you can bet that I will tell everyone I know not to as well.

A common scam. BAM gets a fee for signing people up and the sap(you) is so excited to get something for free that they fail to read the "fine print"---which says you must cancel within a certain length of time or you will be charged for the auto renewal of the subscription.

People who insist on paying for everything with a credit or, worse a debit card are the prime victims of this. You should have gotten something in writing describing the workings of this free subscription program but you failed to read it.

It is possible you didn't, in which case you could try disputing the charges by claiming a failure to inform. Good luck.

They did get something in writing. They signed an agreement with the terms outlined and received a copy of the terms verbatim at the bottom of the receipt.

The company covered its bases.

The customer just didn’t pay attention, because who actually reads anything you sign up for anymore? l mean, for all we know, we could be agreeing to slavery or medical release every time we put down our Hancock.

Horrible customer service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I went in Books-a-million in Winchester, Va today at 2:25pm because my daughter got a book for her birthday that she already has. I went in the store just to exchange it for another book in the series.

I wasn't trying to get cash back or store credit or anything. I just wanted to exchange it for the book she doesn't already have. The cashier told me they "never ever" return books without a receipt. I tried to explain to her, again, this was a gift and I don't have the receipt.

She said the only thing she was willing to do was exchange it for he exact same book. Why the heck would I want to exchange a book we already have for another exact same one??! The cashier was so rude and unapologetic.

I will never go back to this POS store. Every other book store in the world has a better selection anyway.

Worn out by bad business practices!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Placing an order for a single book should not be an issue with today's global market. Unfortunately, that is the case with BAM for Ever.Single.Order we have placed. Earlier issues were centered around the length time between placing the order and receiving it, but now the problem is their system having "a glitch" after taking all of my personal information/card information and then not actually creating the order. After not seeing my order for nearly 2wks (after being promised 3day shipping), I am tossed from one manager to the next and one phone operator to the next, only to be hung up on because of another "glitch". After encountering as many issues as I've had with this company, I'm done! Poor business practices and rude staff make it easy to support online stores like Amazon. I will never refer this company to my friends/family and will pay the 'extra money' for an all around better quality store like Barnes and Noble!

Never received my order

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I ordered String Theory about a week before Christmas and their website said "in stock. will take an extra week for delivery." That sounded good. Fast forward two weeks and it still hadn't shipped. After several attempts to contact Customer Support (it was like pulling teeth to get a response. And the few responses I got were copy and paste answers.) I was finally told this book was on back-order and I would receive an update when it was available. I asked why the website listed String Theory as "in stock" and I was told they would be updating their website. This morning (1/23/17) I was told my order was being cancelled since the book was still on backorder. And yet when I check the website it STILL says that String Theory is in stock. Great going BAM, you really seem competent at running a business. I'll be taking my business elsewhere from now on.

Books A Million - Customer Care Review

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Terrible company. Worst customer service. Good luck getting anyone in the company to even be able to find an email complaint much less to help. Treated horribly at a BAM location and could not seem to find anyone in the company that cared. And the discount prices with the high membership cost are not really that good. Just trying to support a real store. But they don't seem to care do now the family will be going to Barnes and Noble instead. Never setting foot in a BAM again.
