Mary made a purchase on November 28, 2024. The purchase I made was for six books from a series, but not all the books were in store - most were out of stock. The closest store is over an hour and a half away, so I decided to make the purchase online, especially since they were having a sale in which all books would be shipped in just a couple of days. I assumed that all the books would come together since I was paying one shipping fee and they were all from the same series and warehouse.
To my surprise, they did not ship out within a week. I waited two weeks and finally received my first book, but it was just one book. Each shipment was a single book. None of these were packaged correctly. The edges of them got bent because they were just stuck in envelops - some came from USPS, some came from FedEx. None of them were shipped in the same process; only one came in a box. The rest of them had bent corners, damaged sides, and this was the case with five out of the six books.
These were intended as Christmas gifts and did not arrive as promised on the website. I messaged a week before Christmas and queried about shipping, and was told they would ship out and that I would receive them in just a few days. However, after Christmas, I was still receiving books and was missing one book. When I contacted customer service the first time, they were nice and assured me that the books would arrive by Christmas. However, when the books did not show up by Christmas and I finally received the last one, I was still waiting on the first book.
I contacted customer service again since I had not received tracking information and was greeted by a customer service person who told me that the book will ship whenever it will ship. I was frustrated as these were supposed to be Christmas gifts. Despite my frustration, I was very nice with the customer service representative.
The second and third times that I contacted customer service, I encountered rude representatives. I had even contacted corporate and encountered an even less pleasant individual. Out of five people, nobody could tell me when the book was shipped or if I was going to receive it. I was told that the book was on backorder, but it was still available for purchase online with a shipping schedule within a week of January.
I contacted them again to obtain information on my missing books. The customer service representative informed me that they had refunded the order for the missing books, but I never received a refund. Thankfully, I paid with PayPal and was able to contest part of the order since I did not receive my refund, and then I was still met with an uncooperative individual.
I made a complaint through PayPal about this business and I cannot recommend their service to anybody. I used to buy from their stores frequently, but now I will never buy from them again.

Seriously horrible customer service at Rapid City, SD by all ladies I talked to that definitely aren't book readers, but they work at a book store. Really?
I saw first hand that actually they are too lazy to look for a book they have in store on the first day. The only guy that was willing to help was working the front register and tried looking in back for me, he was the only front checker and couldn't do both, but at least he tried on 6/2/24. I appreciate him! I've gone to multiple stores which only have book 1 that left me on a total cliffhanger, and the department stores say try BAM.
Sad that they are the only big book store in town and such a headache dealing with the female workers.
No wonder some stores will eventually go out of business when people have to deal with that type of service why would anyone want to go back. Rant continues.

Preferred solution: Have to wait for money to go back on the card like customer service said it will now take 3-5 days. So I have to wait more time which is priceless and upsets me that I should have ordered online and would have had it by tomorrow.
User's recommendation: I paid for a book to pick up in store that after at most two minutes on phone, enough time for one lady to tell the next one that got on the phone that they don't have it. It only took that long in that big store to look for it? Maybe if someone actually would try to look for it and called putting in work which people do at a their job, customer service job do so need to add, might help. Don't hold your breath and hopefully don't ask for help from the couple lady's I unfortunately asked that really insulted my intelligence telling me a book in store they still don't have it yet! I turned around and walked away not going to even respond to that! So disappointing!

My order was canceled with no explanation. I'm very disappointed in how this turned out. I was excited and looking forward to receiving my books, now they aren't coming.

Signed up for 2 months(8weeks) of 3 free magazines while at an BAM store. After signing up I was given a card of the details and saw it takes 10 to 12 weeks to receive the magazines.
You dont receive them til after your free trail period is up. I called to cancel the subscription and was told by the customer service representative (David Anderson if that is his real name) that it was a six month free trial and not to cancel until after I get my magazines to see if I like them. To call back at the end of 6 months. The card clearly stated after two months I would automatically be charged.
I feel this is an underhanded way of charging people cards for a few months.
I had to aggressively insist that I wanted to cancel the subscription now. I was told I would receive an email in ten minutes confirming the cancellation, which I havent.

Preferred solution: Confirmation that my subscription is cancelled and my bank account will not be charged.

This company has horrible customer service I paid $30 for expedited shipping on an order over $200 and not only did they not compensate me for my expedited shipping because my order was extremely late but customer received it. Customer service routinely ignored.
My emails hung up on me. Did not respond to chats or reply to emails whatsoever, the customer service was so bad that it is not worth any deal you find on this website do not buy from them by somewhere else

on the 9th of August! I have not received
any information regarding shipping or time of delivery! the $33.15 was taken out of my account on August 9th!

I'm done with BAM in Mobile, AL. I was in the store and it was nearing closing time.
The intercom came on and said, 'We are closed, please bring your purchases to the front.' As I was rounding up my wife so we could leave, a very young salesperson approached me and said, 'Sir, we're closed.' I told her that I was heading to the door but I wouldn't be back. I don't like to be rushed out of anywhere! The worst service I have ever received at that place.
It's bad enough that the prices are outrageous but now I have to put up with this? I don't think so!

Moved out of Florida No longer near a bam. I am a pissed consumer.
Be I currently reside in Mukwonago Wisconsin 43149 nowhere near a Books A Million. The nearest is at least 50 miles or more away from me.

To order a book
I don't like being referred to as a "Pissed Customer" I feel that is a poor choice of words. I was "Frustrated" that I bought into the Books a Million club.
This book was not available in store, but I could however receive free shipping.
It was 3.00 less on Amazon, with free shipping
The store associate that i spoke with was very polite and I apologize to him if he thought I was "pissed". I was disappointed and frustrated that I spent $25 for something I will not be very likely to benefit from.
Poor customer service
I did promptly receive a reply to my email. However, I have no idea if my concerns were shared with the BAM Breckenridge Lane store.
The attitude of the staff should be a concern and is certainly an influence on the customers. There is no welcoming to customers, no willingness to help unless you wait for them to vacate their computers.
